Before you apply
To build a new individual sewage system, you must first have a permit from the municipality. Before you fill out and submit the application, it is a good idea to first hire a contractor or consultant who can help you conduct the preliminary investigations and obtain the information needed for the application.
Fee
A fee is charged for the examination and processing of sewage matters. In our tariff you can see the fee for the application/notification for individual sewage.

Included in the application
In addition to a completed application form, certain other information and documents must be attached. These are:
- a site plan/map with measurements of the area. The map must show the location of the facility, proximity to watercourses, buildings, plot boundaries and roads. All nearby water sources must be marked.
- a functional description of the sewage system. This can be, for example, a product sheet from the manufacturer or a reference to a website.
- if infiltration is relevant, the results of a soil test/a visibility analysis from the infiltration site must be attached.
If any part of the sewage system is to be placed on someone else's land, you must have permission from the property owner. It is a good idea to arrange an easement between you and the property owner. An easement is tied to the property, which gives you legal security in case the property owner were to sell the land on which your sewage system is located.
You apply for an easement through Lantmäteriet:

When your application is ready
Once the municipality has received your application, it will be reviewed by an administrator. If something is missing from your application, you must complete it. If your application and documents are complete from the start, the processing time will be shorter.
If you have neighbors who may be affected by your sewage system, the municipality will give them the opportunity to comment before any decision is made.
In connection with the permit application, the administrator from the municipality will also make a site visit to your property together with you. During the site visit, the intended location and proximity to water wells will be checked, among other things.
Permit
A permit to construct a sewage system is valid for five years but expires if work on the system has not started within two years.
When the system is in place, you or the contractor must notify the municipality by filling out and submitting a completion certificate.
Constructing a sewage system without a permit may result in you being required to pay an environmental penalty fee. You must also show that the system has the required design and function.
If you cannot show that the sewage system meets the requirements, you may be required to construct a new system.
E-service and forms
You can apply through our E-services below. Please notice that the E-services are available in Swedish only:
If you are going to build a sewer within 100 meters of the shoreline, you must apply for a shoreline protection exemption.
